Resources to Support the Transition from CAAS Version 3.0 to Version 4.0
CAAS is dedicated to helping accredited EMS agencies transition smoothly to CAAS Standards Version 4.0. To support this process, we offer the following resources:
1. Overview of Changes Document
This concise guide provides:
- A High-Level Summary: Highlights the major changes and updates in Version 4.0 compared to Version 3.0.
- Section Highlights: Explains the reorganized structure, new topics, and expanded standards, offering agencies a clear understanding of what Version 4.0 entails.
2. Crosswalk Document
This essential tool is designed to simplify the transition process by:
- Mapping Changes: Linking each standard from Version 3.0 to its corresponding location in Version 4.0.
- Detailed Navigation: Helping agencies quickly locate updated or reorganized standards for easy implementation.
- New Standards Identification: Clearly identifying newly introduced standards for focused preparation.
3. Transition Schedule
To provide flexibility and sufficient time for agencies to adapt, CAAS has implemented a phased schedule:
- CAAS Standards Version 4.0 release date is January 27, 2025.
- Any NEW agency application request will receive CAAS Standards Version 4.0 after January 27, 2025.
- Any EXISTING applicant or reaccrediting agency that is due to submit between January 27, 2025, and December 31, 2025, will submit under CAAS Version 3.0. Agencies cannot blend Version 3.0 and Version 4.0 standards together.
- Any agency (new or reaccrediting) with a submission date on or after January 1, 2026, must submit on CAAS Standards Version 4.0 only.
- Effective January 1, 2026, CAAS Standards Version 3.0 will no longer be an active standard and will be archived. Any CAAS Standards Version 3.0 submissions received on or after January 1, 2026, will NOT be accepted by CAAS.
- CAAS will now review all standards on a three-year cycle. Comments and suggestions for future standards review will be open after January 1, 2026.
4. Educational Support
CAAS also provides additional resources to assist agencies in understanding and applying the updated standards:
- Webinars and training sessions to explain changes and answer questions.
- Reviewer training materials to ensure a consistent approach to evaluation under Version 4.0.
- Dedicated support for agency-specific guidance and questions.
These resources are designed to ensure EMS agencies can transition confidently to Version 4.0, aligning with updated standards while continuing their pursuit of operational and clinical excellence.
